There has been tons of buzz recently about spraying chalk paint with powder sprayers. I know because we are doing it too. We have a tank compressor and have sprayed a few things with great results. When we spray our paint that we make with Poppie’s paint powder it looks like velvet when it’s dry. We have several more pieces to do and plan on getting them done real soon. I don’t know about you, but when company is coming its always gives us lots of motivation and I have some family coming in next month from the west coast, but
what I really want to tell you about is my friend Amy and a recent experience she had after chalkpainting her kitchen cabinets with Poppies.
So My girl Amy has probably chalkpainted more pieces of furniture with Poppie’s then any person on earth. She is an expert!!! Well recently she ran into a little social media scuff with some people for painting her cabinets with Poppie’s in her own home. She has done several for customers and always has a great result and she thought it’s finally time to take the plunge and do her own. So this is how the story unfolded as she shared it with me.
She removed and prepped all the doors by cleaning them and followed that by applying a coat of deglosser.
She then sprayed 2 coats of DIY chalkpaint that she made by mixing Poppie’s Paint Powder and Behr Interior latex without primer using her Wagner Home Décor Sprayer. After they were dry she oh so gently wiped them down with a 220 grit sandpaper because she loves a very smooth finish. Notice she wasn’t sanding, just very very lightly rubbing them with the paper.
And for a sealer she selected General Finishes Enduro-Var Water-Based Urethane and applied 2 coats.
Here is the beautiful result. She was so excited she posted them on Facebook tagging us and that was when the fun began. Of course several people commented how lovely her kitchen looked but then the naysayers started. She continued to get harassed on social media and decided she would come back at them with both spray guns at full force.
And it wouldn't survive Duct Tape
Firstly they told her that her paint wouldn’t hold up and said It would scratch right off. She took the challenge and WAMMO just look at this video!!!!! Then they said “I bet duct tape would pull your paint it right off”. NOT!!!!I am telling you, Amy knows her Poppies! “ I know my Poppie’s will hold up to scratching and duct tape”. So she put her cat claws to the test! Meow!!!!! Check her out!!! So if you have had reservations about doing your kitchen cabinets, we would love to encourage you to take the plunge. As you can see they will be plenty durable. You can pick yourself up one of the fabulous Wagner sprayers just like Amy uses right here, as well as the Enduro top coat she used too . I bet we could even get her to do a Facebook live to answer any questions you may have if you email us.
I love this Rumi quote. It always makes me think about being a creative business owner. Sadly, living that life we dream of, isn’t always as easy as just saying a quote like this to create the life we long for. Don’t get me wrong, I believe that each and everyone of us are filled with the sparks of greatness that will enable us to do and be what ever we put our mind to . What I am really saying is that many of us have really big dreams and don’t feel like we have or are achieving them up to this point in our lives. The feeling of underachieving or failure that you feel is a big stumbling block on the road to success for you if it’s what you concentrate on. Believe me, I have huge dreams too so I understand!
I am asking you to give your self some grace. There are so many factors that have to come together for any and every level of success to be achieved. Far too much to talk about for a post here. I want to encourage you to actively focus with your minds eye, on just exactly what it is that you desire. Keep it in focus and make small little steps toward it each and everyday that you can. One of the things that has enhanced my life beyond measure has been to learn to enjoy my creative journey. Yes I am serious. Every step and attempt at something changes my course just a we tiny bit and always brings me closer to where I am ultimately going. I pray you can enjoy your journey too just as I do. Sometimes the journey gives us new dreams and thats super fun too. I had to develop the habit of not letting what I haven’t achieved yet, keep me from getting what I desire.

What does a Normal Life mean to you? So many of us frequently start to think about the grass being greener in a "normal" life when we are in a fall or winter season of our businesses. I would like to introduce you all to Lynn Dray. Lynn is a wonderful heart felt girl that I have had the pleasure of meeting through my Poppie's Painter Program. She is even more lovely on the inside as she is pretty on the outside.
Lynn is the artist who started the blogsite LifeUpOnTheHill.com. When interviewing Lynn she shared with me that she is "a born again Christian, wife, mother, DIY class instructor and work from home blogger!" She's been blogging for about 5 years off and on. Lynn stated that "My DIY classes are the result of taking a huge leap of faith by creating an event on Facebook. 3 days before the scheduled party, I had 17 ladies signed up." From there Lynn's business has continued to grow and remains consistent. She teaches workshops where she repurposes used pallet wood to create signs for porches or home decor.
Lynn told me that after she stumbled upon Poppies Paint Powder and Daddy Vans, she fell in love with them. She said" It was exactly what I needed for my parties". I'd love to have you join Lynn for exciting happenings as she shares how she lives creatively and turns old discarded things into treasures on her blog every week as she blogs about all things up on the hill.

OMGosh!!!! I had such a really really hard time when we moved into our present house trying to figure out how to decorate around our TV. The wall is huge and the big TV looked small on it. Poppie has always said that for the best viewing ( both for pleasure and the way your eyes will see it) the TV needs to be at a certain height and so that would preclude it from getting hung on the wall because of how close the sectional is to it. So all these things created decorating issues for me. Its amazing how you have to hang things around the differently based on the size of the wall.
This is only a small section of the wall. For more really nice wall ideas Check out Tips for decorating around your TV on Thriftydecorchick.com. Sarah did a great job there of showing a bunch of different styles.
IT'S TIME AGAIN FOR THE LA PETIT FANCY FLEA AT THE LAKELAND CENTER.
