Painted furniture continues to be all the rage in the DIY market and I know that many of you couldn't be happier about it, just like me . I love the industry and don't see it going away in the near future. Praise God! I have poured my heart and soul into making a product for you all that will stand the test of time. I want you to experience the joy and satisfaction of creating that first beautiful repurposed masterpiece. I know there are thousands of posts and videos out there on furniture painting, This can be a curse or a blessing. and quite overwhelming when trying to sort through all the info, so I have put together a few of my need to know tips for new furniture painters.
1. One of my favorite sayings is "If it's Wood it's Good". When you are looking for old pieces of furniture to paint you will have the greatest level of success with your outcome if you paint furniture that is solid wood. Paint will adhere to the wood much better. pressed board or particle board many times has a paper covering on it and the paint can not bond to the surface.
2. If you have limited resources, A good brush is worth the investment. A nice brush will last you for years if you properly care for it. I was chalk-painting for years before finally using the Best Chalk Brush, I don't know why, maybe as form of rebellion to the big ready made brands, but after using one I figured out what I was missing out on. You can paint your piece in half the time and you'll actually use less paint too!
3. Invest in a quality Chalk Paint product. One of the best things you can ever do for yourself if you want to paint furniture is invest in a quality chalk paint product like Poppie's Paint Powder or one of the many quality paints on the market today. The benefit to using chalk-paint over plain latex is that you will rarely have to sand or prime and never have to strip a piece of furniture again. These three words keep a lot of would be repurposers from ever picking up the paint brush.
